The Guerrilla Knowledge Unit (GKU) is the inaugural plug-in to the 2017 Ars Electronica Futurelab Academy at QUT. It introduces pre-service teachers to ‘art thinking’ as a basis for the development of curriculum-linked learning outcomes that push current pedagogical norms, and provides an opportunity for student teachers to extend their professional practice and academic knowledge as 21st-century educators. The group will be exposed to new concepts, language, and methods and processes of unpacking and expressing big ideas, via a range of creative practices.

Working alongside the Ars Electronica Futurelab Academy, and using the developing experiments as sites of pedagogical inquiry, the Guerrilla Knowledge Unit will produce experimental pedagogy and experiential responses to the overarching conceptual premise: Artificial Intelligence / The Other I. Over the course of the project, student teachers will develop these experiences, seek feedback from a range of mentors, and test out their ideas in informal and formal learning environments across Brisbane. The results of the project will be showcased via a package of outcomes at the Ars Electronica Festival.
